To test the dependability of electrical switching, generator output, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, and cooling in a data centre, a load bank is a device that creates a specified quantity of electricity use.
Although it is not an exact replica, a load bank test replicates genuine operation by applying the load in situ at real temperatures and relative humidity. Only power (current and voltage) is drawn by the load bank to test the infrastructure before it is safely released as heat.
Load banks can be stationary or moveable. While portable load banks can be moved within the data centre and between sites to evaluate different power configurations, fixed load banks are better suited for outdoor application.
